I am an “Out of Sight Out of Mind” guy.
I actually think most people are so it amazes me when people keep in sight, the things, places, people that they know they need to avoid. I don’t want to buy any new clothes for a period of time? I stay out of the mall. Don’t want to eat fried foods? Stay away from Seafood places that serve fried shrimp and hushpuppies (my favorite). Realize a relationship is draining me? Quit making that relationship a regular part of my life.
Out of sight will eventually become out of mind.
Some people think that this is cold. Especially on the relationship part of the equation. Look, I am a Husband to Amanda and a Dad to Sydney, Abbey, Caroline, Will and Rhodes. They need and deserve my time and I want to give more of it to them. I also want to maintain and invest in a few key relationships. During racing season I train for triathlon, on average,1-5 hours a day 6 days a week. Start adding the time up in the day and distributing blocks for training and relationships and some things just aren’t going to make it.
If I try and make time for everyone, I will make quality time with no one.
I included this Bob Goff tweet the other day and I’ll include it again. . .
If we don’t leave some margins, there won’t be places for God to write into our lives. It’s Thursday! What are you going to quit?
What are you going to focus on today?
