Had a meeting this morning with a good buddy of mine. He was excited as I’ve seen him in a long time. Turns out some major changes are taking place at his work that involve him and he is pumped!

He’s been faithfully doing his job for over 10 years. Day in and day out he has shown up and performed. He’s the best at what he does. He’s wanted more opportunity. He has great, creative, forward thinking ideas. His time just hadn’t come.

Until now.

Now, it appears that he is going to be given the opportunity that he has faithfully prepared for over the last decade plus.

I believe it was legendary UCLA basketball coach John Wooden who said, “When opportunity presents itself, it’s too late to prepare.”  See, you can’t be ok at what you do, day in day out, and then think when a better opportunity comes along you’ll all of a sudden be great. Doesn’t work that way. You have to be great every day. My friend has been and now opportunity has appeared and he is prepared. That’s how it works in the real world.

I can’t wait to watch how this all grows under his leadership.
