Why are we so compelled to accept and then deflect a compliment? You know what, let me state that again and claim my statement. Why am I so compelled to deflect a compliment?
The other day, for example, a friend was complimenting me on the weight I’ve lost. I said Thank You which should have been the end of it. But, of course, I proceeded to follow up my Thank You with. . .”Now if I can just keep it off. My last race of the season is Sunday so, well, you know, I’ll have to find something else to help me stay focused and in shape.”
So stupid.
“Hey Bill, you’ve really lost weight you look great.”
“Thank you.”
That’s all.
